March 2009 - English

One of our privileges is the ability to read the bible in our own language. Each of us has a duty to study God’s word for ourselves in order that we may fully understand the wonderful truths of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. In addition to the bible, there are many other study aids available such as commentaries, bible dictionaries, etc. These can be found in both paper or in software form that makes searching easier. Such material can often be accessed at web-sites or as freely available software to download.

These are just two websites that provide bibles in several languages and other study aids. http://www.biblegateway.com/ provides a good selection of English bibles and other languages. http://www.bibleserver.com/ provides a rich selection of German bibles. Another powerful on-line study resource can be found at http://www.blueletterbible.org/ .

e-Sword is software that provides electronic bibles for PC or Pocket PC and can be downloaded from http://www.e-sword.net/ . The user interface works in several languages. Another similar tool is called The Sword Project which can be downloaded from www.crosswire.org/sword/index.jsp . Both of these tools contain bibles in a wide variety of languages, though the free bibles tend to be older versions which are now out of copyright. They also have a wide variety of study aids, but most of these are only available in English.

I hope these resources help you deepen your study of scripture and your understanding of God‘s love for you!
