The well known Christian author, Oswald Chambers+, often wrote about the need for a Christian “to give up the rights to himself.” Jesus originally put it this way: “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny (him)self, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. (Luke 9:23) And Paul writing to the Corinthians says: “… I die daily.” (1 Cor 15:31b) It is necessary for those that serve God to forego certain rights that they might have, when to do so would be damaging to other believers. Jesus lived this way and because He lived a crucified life, He was also able to die a crucified death. The following are some examples that Paul gives in Corinthians, but it is worth reading the whole letter to see the others!
When someone has been wronged and seeks recompense in the courts, Paul writes, “Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? (1 Cor 6:7)
And he counsels them, that though they can eat any food, they must consider the effect on their fellow Christians before doing so, “But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.” (1 Cor 8:12-13)
We may not be called to die a crucified death, but we can and must live a crucified life.

Oktober 2008 - Deutsch
Ein Aspekt des Dienstes Jesu war sein geistliches Leben. So lesen wir, dass Jesus im Geist frohlockte (Luke 10:21). Am Anfang seines Dienstes verdeutlichte er uns das Verlangen seines Vaters eine geistliche Beziehung mit uns zu haben als er sagte: … die wahren Anbeter beten den Vater im Geist und in der Wahrheit an; denn der Vater sucht solche Anbeter (John 4:23). Das Werk das Gott in uns vollbringt ist eine Veränderung im Geist, denn dort hat der Sündenfall seine Wurzeln. Wir müssen aufpassen, dass unsere Erfahrung mit Gott nicht nur emotional oder mental gewesen ist, sondern dass wir ihm erlaubt haben tief in unserem Inneren zu arbeiten. Eines der Wunder der Wiedergeburt ist, dass Gott uns einen neuen Geist gibt, mit dem wir den Vater so anbet-en können wie er es sich wünscht. Jedoch gibt es noch viele, viele andere Segnungen. Nur einige sind unten aufgeführt:
- Darum: Ist jemand in Christus, so ist er eine neue Schöpfung; das Alte ist vergangen; siehe, es ist alles neu geworden! (2 Cor 5:17)
- ... die Liebe Gottes ist ausgegossen in unsere Herzen durch den Heiligen Geist, der uns gegeben worden ist. (Rom 5:5)
- denn Gott hat uns nicht einen Geist der Furchtsamkeit gegeben, sondern der Kraft, der Liebe und der Zucht. (2 Tim 1:7)
- Nachdem ihr aber von der Sünde befreit wurdet, seid ihr Knechte der Gerechtigkeit geworden. (Rom 6:18)

One aspect of Jesus’ ministry was His spiritual life. For instance, we read that Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit (Luke 10:21). Early in His ministry, He showed the desire of the Father to relate to us in spirit when He said … the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. (John 4:23). The work that God does in us is a change in spirit, for that is where the ‘fall’ has its roots. We must be careful that our experience of God has not simply been emotional or mental, but that we have allowed Him to work deep within our very being. One of the marvels of this new birth is that God gives us a new spirit so that we can worship the Father in the way He desires, but there are many, many other blessings. Just a few are listed below:
- If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Cor 5:17)
- ... the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Rom 5:5)
- God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Tim 1:7)
- And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. (Rom 6:18)

September 2008 - Deutsch
"Wiedergeburt" ist ein Begriff der vielen Christen sehr am Herzen liegt - und mit Recht. Wenn wir unsere Bibeln lesen merken wir, dass der Begriff fast ausschließlich in den Schriften des Johannes zu finden ist. Petrus bezieht sich einmal darauf (1 Pet 1:23) und Paulus einige Male indirekt (Tit 3:5). Das bedeutet nicht, dass diese Idee den anderen Schreibern unbekannt ist, sondern sie benutzen unterschiedliche Begriffe um die gleiche wunderbare Wahrheit zu demonstrieren. Petrus zum Beispiel schreibt über die Teilhaber an der göttlichen Natur (2 Pet 1:4).
Die grundlegende Idee ist, dass Gott durch das Kreuz eine dramatische Veränderung in unserem Leben bewirkt. Jedoch genau wie bei der natürlichen Geburt ist dies nur der Anfang von dem was Gott in unserem Leben tun will. Wir müssen wachsen und das Leben das Gott in uns hineingepflanzt hat muss sich entwickeln mit dem letztendlichen Ziel, dass wir die Charaktereigenschaften seines Sohnes demonstrieren. Was für ein wunderbares Ziel!
Als Paulus an die Korinther schreibt, fordert die Gemeinde am Ende seines Briefes auf: Prüft euch selbst, ob ihr im Glauben seid; stellt euch selbst auf die Probe! (2 Cor 13:5a) Auch wir müssen uns sicher sein, dass Gott wirklich eine Veränderung in uns bewirkt hat, die unumstritten ist. Es ist nicht genug zu wissen, dass wir einer Formel oder einem Prozess gefolgt sind, sondern dass Gott etwas in unserem Geist verändert hat. Paulus schreibt wieder: Der Geist selbst gibt Zeugnis zusammen mit unserem Geist, dass wir Gottes Kinder sind. (Rom 8:16). Warum ist dies wichtig? Genau wie im natürlichen Leben keiner von einem ungeborenen Kind Wachstum erwartet, so ist auch im geistlichen Leben Wachstum nur denen möglich die wiedergeboren sind!

New birth is a phrase dear to many Christians and rightly so. But as we read our bibles we find it is almost exclusively used by John in his writings. Peter refers to it once (1 Pet 1:23) and Paul alludes to it indirectly a few times eg (Tit 3:5). This doesn’t mean that the idea is unknown to the other writers, but rather that they use different terms to portray the same wonderful truth. For instance Peter refers to those who are partakers of the divine nature (2 Pet 1:4). But the fundamental idea is that, because of the cross, God is able to makes a dramatic change in our lives.
But just as in the natural life birth is just the start, so new birth is just the start of what God wants to do in our lives. We must grow and develop the life that God has planted in us, with the final objective that we should show forth all of the characters of His Son. What a wonderful aim!

Das Evangelium von seinem Sohn, der erwiesen ist als Sohn Gottes in Kraft nach dem Geist der Heiligkeit durch die Auferstehung von den Toten, Jesus Christus, unser Herrn, (Röm 1v1-4)
Wir wissen, dass Christus jetzt zur rechten Hand Gottes sitzt und dass alle Authorität im Himmel und auf Erden in seine Hände gegeben worden ist. Die oben zitierten Verse zeigen deutlich, dass unser Herr seine Position eingenommen hat. Nicht durch Zufall oder mit einem leichten Vorteil, sondern mit Macht. Jesus hat alle seine Feinde erfolgreich zerstört und überall, im Himmel und auf Erden, wird er als der Sohn Gottes mit Kraft verkündigt. Obwohl der Preis dieses Sieges hoch war, hat dies unseren Herrn nicht geschwächt, sondern er erschien in seiner Position zur Rechten Hand Gottes, ganz ohne Zweifel. Wie wunderbar, dass er bereit ist diesen Sieg mit uns zu teilen.
Wir lesen im Hebräerbrief über die Größe dieses Sieges, durch den wir nicht mehr unter der Furcht des Todes leben müssen..., damit er durch den Tod den außer Wirksamkeit setzte, der die Macht des Todes hatte, nämlich den Teufel, 15 und alle diejenigen befreite, die durch Todesfurcht ihr ganzes Leben hindurch in Knechtschaft gehalten wurden. (Heb 2:14-15). Jakobus beschreibt die Auswirkung dieses Sieges deutlich, So unterwerft euch nun Gott! Widersteht dem Teufel, so flieht er von euch;. (Jak 4:7). Der Teufel und alle seine Dämonen haben keine Macht über die, die Christus gehören! Was für einen wunderbaren Sieg Christus errungen hat und wie gesegnet wir sind an diesem Sieg Anteil haben zu dürfen!

The [Good News] of God, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. (Rom 1v1-4 with edits)
We know that Christ is new seated at the right hand of God and that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given into His hands. The verses above clearly our Lord has been established in this position, not by chance or with some slight advantage, but with power. Jesus had successfully destroyed all His enemies and throughout , whether in heaven or on earth, He was declared as the Son of God with power! Though there was a great cost in this victory, it did not weaken our Lord, but He was brought forth with His position at God’s right hand in no doubt. And it is wonderful that He is willing to share His victory with us.
We read later in Hebrews, the extent of Jesus' victory, since we no longer need to live in fear because... that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (Heb 2:14-15). The outworking of this victory, James sets out for us clearly when he says, Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7). The devil and all his demons have no power over those that are Christ’s! What a marvellous victory Christ has won, and how blessed we are that we can share in it!
